Qué (quién) es TX-0 - definición

EARLY TRANSISTORIZED COMPUTER
Lincoln TX-0; Tixo; Transistorized Experimental computer zero; TX-O; TX-o
  • TX-0 computer circuitry used Philco surface-barrier transistors, which were encapsulated in plug-in vacuum tubes for testing and easy removal.
  • Philco surface-barrier transistor advertisement for the first high-frequency transistors, which were used in the TX-0 transistorized computer

TX-0
The first transistorised computer, the direct ancestor of the PDP-1 built at MIT's Lincoln Lab in 1957. (1994-12-06)
TX-0
The TX-0, for Transistorized Experimental computer zero, but affectionately referred to as tixo (pronounced "tix oh"), was an early fully transistorized computer and contained a then-huge 64K of 18-bit words of magnetic-core memory. Construction of the TX-0 began in 1955 and ended in 1956.

LOCOMOTIVE WHEEL ARRANGEMENT
Four-coupled; 0-4-0T; 0-4-0ST; 0-4-0WT; 0-4-0DH
Under the Whyte notation for the classification of steam locomotives, represents one of the simplest possible types, that with two axles and four coupled wheels, all of which are driven. The wheels on the earliest four-coupled locomotives were connected by a single gear wheel, but from 1825 the wheels were usually connected with coupling rods to form a single driven set.

It was used continually through the 1960s at MIT. The TX-0 incorporated around 3,600 Philco high-frequency surface-barrier transistors, the first transistor suitable for high-speed computers. The TX-0 and its direct descendant, the original PDP-1, were platforms for pioneering computer research and the development of what would later be called computer "hacker" culture. For MIT, this was the first computer to provide a System console which allowed for direct interaction, as opposed to previous computers, which required the use of Punched card as a primary interface for programmers debugging their programs. Members of MIT's Tech Model Railroad Club, "the very first hackers at MIT", reveled in the interactivity afforded by the console, and were recruited by Marvin Minsky to work on this and other systems used by Minsky's AI group.
